3rd Street Gallery, a co-operative artists space in Old City, presents the work of Melissa Maddonni Haims and Carol Wisker. Mellisa Maddoni Haims new series called "purge" consists of heirloom fabric with embroidered phrases that incorporate her signature knit and crochet soft sculpture. Carol Wisker's abstract sculptures and paintings explore the use of line in the fluidity of paint and in the combination with fiber in a variety of diverse materials, including silk cocoons, hand-cast paper, wood, bamboo and metal.

Fiber Revolution is a group of artists from the East Coast of the US and Gaborone, Botswana. This collection of 24 art quilts will be on display at the unique lobby/gallery space housed in the Solutions for Progress Office Building at 728 Broad Street.

Not a Stitch is a US/UK group exhibition featuring two-dimensional renderings of needlework and other fiber and textile arts. Whether a lace cyanotype, a Tarot deck illustrated exclusively with images of knitting and knitters, or the bondage drawings of a wool and knitwear fetishist, the exhibit features three-dimensional needlework as a muse, but is itself absent of a single embroidered, sewn, knitted, crocheted or woven stitch. The Handwork Studio, a kids' needle arts and fashion studio based in Narberth, PA, will have a window display highlighting their students handwork created throughout the last year. The Handwork Studio's mission is to pass down the tradition of teaching practical arts such as knitting, crocheting, hand and machine sewing, embroidery, quilting, fashion and crafts in a fun and relaxed environment.

Utilizing their trademark strappo process – a traditional mural restoration technique – Spanish artists Patricia Gómez and María Jesús González create large-scale prints in the form of singular impressions taken from the walls of abandoned buildings slated for destruction. Doing Time: Depth of Surface features large-scale monoprints, photographs, video and sound works created by the artists during a six-week residency in Philadelphia’s historic Holmesburg Prison.

Working directly from live models, Japanese artist Shizuko Kimura creates intricately rendered figure drawings that fuse Asian aesthetics with Western concepts of figurative art and abstraction. In allegiance to the performative elements of drawing, her intimate works demonstrate the stitched mark’s ability to record subtle gesture and capture the essential vitality of the human body through a reductive use of line and texture.

Featuring recent work created by former fellows in the Center for Emerging Visual Artists’ (CFEVA) Career Development Program, this exhibition explores the diverse ways that contemporary artists are (re)interpreting fiber art-based traditions and techniques. Donnelly creates large-scale woven works inspired by the form of inkblots, adapting the mirror image motif to a technique she has developed for weaving. Sherman has carved hollows into the pages of twelve vintage books and placed into the empty spaces a unique piece of jewelry inspired by the themes and illustrations of each book.

This annual juried exhibition serves as a showcase for both the experienced and emerging fiber artist and as an educational experience for the growing membership of the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers and general public.

Philadelphia-based artist Melissa Maddonni Haims “knit bombs” the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, enlivening the brown and grey winter landscape by wrapping tree trunks with brightly colored yarn cozies. Funny, bright and engaging, this installation entices winter travelers to stroll the woods and see them anew. A small indoor exhibit of works created from recycled, reused and reclaimed materials complements the outdoor installation. Outdoor Installation February through April.
